Develop Your MasterMind Group

MasterMind GroupIn Napoleon Hill's blockbuster novel  "Think and Grow Rich", he describes the MasterMind as "Coordination and Effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definate purpose".

In my experience, job seekers and anyone wanting to achieve success cannot do it alone.   In my sessions, I actually advise to have two groups with two separate goals: one is my 'mastermind or mentor' group and the other is my Accountability Group.  I use them for two different purposes.

First let's define Why you need a group.   If you saw a mountain and wanted to climb that mountain what would you do first? Probably research that mountain.  You'd want to speak with people that know it and have climbed it themselves.   You will only get so far reading about it.  

As  you prepare to climb that mountain you'll need supplies and as a climber you never want to go alone so you enlist one or more people to advise, guide and support your dream of climbing that mountain.  These are people initially that know climbing, know that mountain and know how to make sure you stay safe .  This my friends is your 'Mastermind or Peer Group'.   They will be the people that know this terrain best and you surround your self with them before, during and after the process.  Most likely they will become life-long friends.

Now a second group is your ''accountability' or 'support' group.  These are not necessarily the people that know what you're doing but they are there for moral and spiritual support. These are people that love you and want you to succeed. These are people who you share your more intimate goals and passions with.  They can be partners, spouses, children, friends, clergy, your closest work associates.  They will hold you 'accountable' because you ask them to.

So choose these two groups wisely.  How does it work in a job search?   For your MastermInd group, write down what knowledge, skills and  guidance you need.  Write down who you know can provide this information.  Approach them and ask them for 'guidance or support'.  Very few people would turn this down and most would feel honored you chose them.

For your 'Accountability' team, pick people you trust who only want the best for you.  Someone who is disciplined and can be firm with you because as you go off path, these are the people who will keep you focused.

Meet with you Mastermind Team either individually or as a group but as a group they have the most power as they will cohesively be empowered by each other, will come up with greater ideas and suggestions as they feed off one another.  You don't need to meet often.  1-3 times will do it.

Your accountability team you meet with weekly or bi-weekly at most as they know your plan and will force you to stick with it.

Do not do this journey alone. In numbers you will gain the greatest strength.

Now go develop your Mastermind Group
