The Opportunities that Pop Up In Interviews. So Listen.

In many interviews you will hear something that is a potential opportunity, but often the candidate doesn't hear it.   It could be personal things that come up, pictures on the wall, something someone says to someone else, or something said to you that has nothing to do with the interview your're at.

For instance, Stacey has her list of questions and she has things she wants to say.  She's listening for the opportunity to share that thing she wants to say.  So as she's listening she's also thinking of her agenda.  What she's able to do or has knowledge of.

During the interview, the Manager mentions that he'll have to go out of town on a new project  that will take much of his year so he needs someone while he's gone for this role.   He's thinking of her for this role, she's trying to sell herself for this role so that's all they focus on.

After the interview, in the coming weeks, he makes his decision on this position.  Stacey didn't get the job.

In the next few weeks, he starts planning for this new project.  He has to staff it so hands it off to his internal recruiting team to find him candidates in a different location and he waits for the resumes.

Unbeknownst to either the Manager; Stacey is from that area he will be hiring for.  She didn't bring it up in the interview as it wasn't relevant.  She might have been a great candidate for that new position but both people go on in their lives missiing an opportunity because Stacey did not ask any questions about this new project.

Listen!  Opportunities are all around.  You just have to Listen to them.
