If you are ever taught sales, negotiating or even if you have a good coach in sports, you will be taught to visualize.
From Wikipedia, "Creative visualization is the technique of using one's imagination to visualize specific behaviors or events occurring in one's life".
Let's take it one step further, if you want to accomplish something you must visualize it in your head over and over. Visualize what you will say, what you will do, how the other person may respond and your answer to it.
Here's an example in an interview. You know you will be meeting the Director of Human Resources before the interview. You find out before hand you will be walked to the conference room by the administrator so most likely you will be waiting in that interview room before HR gets there or they will be waiting. Close your eyes…. When you get to the building are you polished, have you brushed your hair, no ketchup on your face? You have your notepad in a nice suit? Great… keep visualizing.
Picture yourself waiting in that room. Will you sit and wait or stand and wait and look at pictures? How do you want to appear? Now you're above this watching this enfold in your own head so you can play this out. What do you say first and how do you greet that person?
Let's fast forward to the end. Last question asked, role play how you want it to end. You probably want to move it to the next step so what are you asking? What are you doing before you go to the car? Did you ensure you got business cards and asked the right ending questions? Visualize it all first. Anticipate their response and your response to that. Play each scenario out that you can think of.
Your brain does what it is trained to do. Visualize it, embed it into your brain and you'll be amazed how much of this actually will happen.
JUST A TIP… Visualize a happy ending not a bad one. The brain does wont' recognize the right course if you haven't trained it to, only what you vision you want to happen.
Very thoughtfull post on creative visualization. It should be very much helpfull
